Technical characteristics:

  1. Transparent cover – 4 mm low iron tempered glass with a minimum transmittance of 91.5%.
  2. Absorber plate - 0.2 mm copper plate welded ultrasonically to copper risers coated in either black chrome coating, high efficiency blue sputter or solar selective paint.
  3. Copper risers – 3/8″,1/2″ copper tubes.

All collectors undergo test pressure of 12 bars whereas permitted working pressure is 8 bars.


Conergy Panel/ Kwiksol Panel:
The Kwiksol Solar Collector Panel can be used in a direct system where the potable water in the solar water heater passes through the solar collector panel or as an indirect system where a heat transfer liquid in the form of diluted Propylene Glycol passes through the solar collector panel.
The solar collector panel has an aluminium frame, 4mm toughened prismatic, non-reflective, and anti-hail tempered glass. Durable copper waterways tubes and a semi-selective black chrome surface on copper substrate, guarantees maximum absorption efficiency.


  • 5 Years from date of installation providing proof of installation is furnished, or from date of manufacture as indicated on the serial plate.
  • The guarantee only applies to defects, which have arisen solely due to faulty materials and workmanship during the manufacture of the solar collector panel.
  • The solar collector glass is not covered by the warranty nor any freezing damage.

Pacific Solar Vacuum Tubes:
As the key components of the solar collector, the evacuated tube is a product that is optimized in geometry and performance. The tubes are composed of two concentric glass tubes which in each case are half spherically closed on one side and fused together on the other side. The gap between the tubes is evacuated and afterwards hermetically plugged (vacuum Insulation). In order to make solar power usable, the internal glass tube is provided on its external surface with an environmentally friendly, highly selective layer and is thus designed as an absorber. This coating is thus protected within the vacuum gap. It is an aluminum nitrite sputter layer which is characterised by very low emission and very good absorbtion.

The tubes come in a configuration of 12, 18 or 24 tubes.


In a solar water heating system a pump is used to circulate the hot water from the collector to the geyser. This is necessary for a system that is configured in such a way that the geyser lies below the collector.  It is mainly used when the geyser sits inside the roof. There are different kinds of pumps available depending if you want the pump to be electrically powered or solar powered.

Wilo pump 220v
The Wilo pump is used when the configuration of the solar system is such that the collector lies above the geyser. The pump pumps the heat from the collector down, into the geyser. WILO SE with headquarters in Dortmund, Germany, is one of the leading manufacturers of pumps and pump systems for heating, cooling and air-conditioning technology, for water supply and drainage and sewage. The company was founded in 1872 by Louis Opländer as a copper and brass goods factory. Wilo is represented by almost 70 subsidiaries all over the world and employs more than 6,000 people worldwide.

The Wilo pump that is used in solar installations is the Wilo Star ST 15/4.

12V Pump
The 12V solar DC pump can be used for most hot water circulation applications. It will be used in conjunction with a 10 watt photovoltaic panel and is characterized by its small size, high efficiency, and extremely low power consumption.

Over-Temperature Protection
The ITS12V-B Solar DC pump comes with an integrated over-temperature safety device which slows down the pump at 95°C and shuts off the pump electronics when reaching temperature over 110°C (230°F). When the temperature of the pumped fluid cooled to below 95°C (203°F) the pump will function normally again.

12 Volt Pump

Photovoltaic Panel:
A photovoltaic panel uses energy from the sun to charge a battery, the power from this battery can be used for various appliances around the house, most commonly used  in solar water heating systems to supply power to a pump in order to pump hot water from the collector to the solar geyser. A photovoltaic panel can also power lights, charge cell phones or any other elctrical appliance around the house. 

A photovoltaic panel comes in various sizes and watt output. For a solar water heating system a 10 watt photovoltaic panel is used, it is about the size of an A 4 piece of paper. A photovoltaic panel and 12 volt pump is most successful in the event of a power failure because your pump will still work and you will still be able to have a hot shower. This will make you the envy of your whole neighbourhood!

Propylene Glycol:
Glycol is an anti freeze liquid that is poured into a solar panel of an indirect solar water heating system, in areas where frost occurs. Propylene Glycol does not freeze even when diluted with water and prevents the solar collector panel from freezing. This will ensure that your system remains efficient throughout the cold winters in Gauteng.
Product Dilution Recommendations:
In areas where the ambient temperature falls below 5º C and -8º C, the recommended dilution mix is one part heat transfer fluid to three parts water and in areas -9º C to -16º C one part heat transfer fluid to two parts water.

Geyserwise TS:
The geyserwise TS is mainly used in the thermosyphon configuration.  This unit is simple and easy to use. It allows users various options and time zones as to when the element should be turned on so you can taylor make the system to work for you. The geyserwise TS has many safety features including: Probe failure, element failure, overheating and a warning for leaking pipes.

Geyserwise TS

Geyserwise Max
The Geyserwise Max has all the functions of the Geyserwise TS and more, it is mainly used in the pumped configuration when using a 12 v pump and a photovoltaic panel. It has the option of a battery backup so it will still function during a power failure. Next time Eskom turns off your electricity you will still have HOT WATER.

SR 868 controller
The SR 868 controller is most commonly used in a pumped configuration with a 220v pump. It is a highly sophisticated system but still maintains a user friendly interface. The controller allows the customer to set various different times that the geyser must be a certain temperature; this means that one will set the temperature to be around 60 degrees at the times that one normally showers.

Product Functions:

  • The SR868 controller has a 24 hr clock
  • The display will show the temperature at the top of the collector, the bottom of the geyser and the top of the geyser; this allows the one to have a full overview of the temperature of one’s solar water heating system.
  • The SR868 controller will control the pump so that the pump only stars to work once the temperature inside the collector is hot enough to heat the water inside the geyser; this is known as a temperature differential control. It will generally be set to a 10 degree difference in temperature i.e.: when the liquid in the collector is 10 degrees hotter than the geyser, the pump will turn on and the liquid from the collector will be transferred into the geyser. When the temperature in the collector is no longer hot enough to heat the geyser, the pump will switch off.
  • The SR 868 controller has a freeze protection system that will prevent damage to the solar panel in a direct system.

Pipe Insulation:
Pipe lagging or insulation is used to keep the heat inside your pipes making your solar water heating system more efficient as the water that has left your geyser on the way to your shower stays warmer for longer. Insulflex is a flexible and light weight elastomeric nitrile rubber material designed for thermal insulation.  Insulflex insulation is black in colour, available in tubing and sheet form.  The extruded flexible tubes are specially designed to fit the standard diameters of steel and copper pipes.  Sheets are available in standard pre-cut sizes or in rolls.

Insulflex expanded close sell structure provides the ideal and most efficient vapour barrier for the prevention of condensation or frost formation on cooling systems, chilled water and refrigeration lines. 
Insulflex also retards heat loss for hot water plumbing and heating, dual temperature piping and solar systems.  It protects pipes by acting as vibration damper and giving protection against corrosion by atmospheric and industrial environment.
Insulflex inherent flexibility makes it ideally suited for the insulation of large surface area such as tanks, irregular shaped vessels, air-ducts and large diameter pipes.
Insulflex insulation material has been specially designed to provide the following features:

  • Its low thermal conductivity (K value) which makes it highly efficient and effective in the insulation of cooling or heating systems.
  • The hermetic blister closed cell structure forms an impermeable layer which is a good vapour barrier.
  • It is suitable for applications within the temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.
  • The material has been specially compounded to be self extinguishing in nature.
  • Insulflex has excellent ozone and ultraviolet ray resistance.
  • It is CFC, chlorine and fibre free and does not cause shin allergy.
  • It is also inert to majority of chemical agents and neutral to pipe metals.
  • The extreme flexibility of the material makes installation fast, easy and economical.
  • It is able to withstand tearing, rough handling and severe site conditions.
  • Much lesser space is needed for insulflex as a thinner wall is required due to its low   k value as compared to other types of insulation.
  • The smooth surface of insulflex material gives the finished insulation a neat aesthetic appearance.
  • No coating is needed on most indoor installations.

Pipe Insulation


Used to secure the geyser and the panel to the roof in a neat and safe way so that the solar system will be most efficient, in terms of the direction it faces and the angle that it sits at. The stands come in pitched or flat roof configurations.

  • Air Release Valve – used in an indirect system to ensure that there are no air locks interfering with the efficiency of the system.
  • Solar relief valve – Pressure Relief valve for 100kPa systems with integral Vacuum Relief.
  • Tempering valve – A tempering valve mixes hot water with cold water to protect the user from burning due to the temperature of the water being too hot. At Unlimited solar we recommend a tempering valve for every system
